Mauritius steps up preparations for COP31 Climate Summit

The Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change will launch national consultations in August 2026 as part of preparation for Mauritius' participation in the 31st Meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will be held in Türkiye in November 2026.

The consultations will bring together representatives from both the public and private sectors, including members of the Climate Change Committee, the Economic Development Board, Business Mauritius, banking institutions and civil society organisations.

The preparatory process will help identify Mauritius' national priorities and strengthen the country's position ahead of the global climate summit, enabling it to contribute effectively to discussions on climate action while advocating for the interests of Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

COP31 will feature a dedicated high-level session on the climate finance needs of SIDS and will seek to strengthen trust in multilateralism, advance implementation and narrow the gap between commitments and real-world delivery.

The conference will also galvanise global attention on measurable climate actions; continued discussions on financing regarding the tripling of adaptation finance; proposing a work programme on finance; and on advancing a Global Implementation Accelerator Programme to enhance international cooperation for the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions.
