An International Monetary Fund delegation currently in Mauritius on a Tax Administration Diagnostic Assessment Tool (TADAT) mission, accompanied by the Director-General of the Mauritius Revenue Authority, Mr Rohit Ramnawaz, met the Junior Minister of Finance, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry, yesterday in Port-Louis.
The delegation comprised of Mr Augusto A. Perez, Mr Stephen Mendes, Mr Aldo Silvano and Mr Oscar A.N. Mora. The TADAT mission aims at assessing the Customs Department, identifying areas for improvement and supporting reforms and modernisation.
In a statement following the meeting, Junior Minister Damry emphasised that enhancing the productivity of the Customs Department is vital to driving national economic growth and plays a critical role in the ongoing fight against illicit drug trafficking.
Along this vein, Mr Rohit Ramnawaz noted that the ongoing assessment will optimise operational workflows across all procedural stages, with a focus on maximising trade facilitation while countering unlawful activities. He further remarked that the Customs Department’s proven track record already establishes its standing as a benchmark for efficiency in the region.
