MRA celebrates two decades of Service and Innovation

The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) launched its 20th anniversary celebrations on 08 July 2026 at the Custom House in Mer Rouge under the theme “Building Trust, Compliance and National Progress”. The celebrations will feature a series of initiatives marking two decades of service, innovation and contribution to national development.

The launching ceremony was attended by the Junior Minister of Finance, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry, along with the Chairperson of the MRA, Mr Tejkumar Gujadhur; the Governor of the Bank of Mauritius, Dr Priscilla Muthoora Thakoor; the Commissioner of Police, Mr Rampersad Sooroojebally; the Director-General of the MRA, Mr Rohit Ramnawaz; and other distinguished guests.

In his keynote address, Junior Minister Damry highlighted the importance of trust as a cornerstone of strong institutions and national progress. He stressed that institutions such as the MRA have a crucial role in building citizens’ confidence by ensuring that their operations are guided by transparency, fairness, integrity and professionalism.

The Junior Minister commended the MRA for its achievements over the past 20 years and encouraged the institution to continue adapting to a rapidly changing environment through digital transformation and investment in capacity building. He also underlined the importance of innovation and continuous learning to ensure that institutions remain efficient and responsive to future challenges.

For his part, Mr Gujadhur stated that the 20th anniversary celebrates two decades of national service, institutional growth and contribution to the socio-economic development of Mauritius. He highlighted the MRA’s role in mobilising public revenue, facilitating trade, encouraging compliance and strengthening public confidence, and noted that the institution has modernised its systems, improved service delivery, enhanced customs operations, invested in risk management and digital platforms and reinforced taxpayer education.

This event was an opportunity to reflect on the institution’s growth and achievements over the past two decades, while recognising the dedication of past and present employees, as well as the support of stakeholders and taxpayers.

The new MRA@20 commemorative logo was unveiled during the ceremony and will feature on the Authority’s official letterheads, emails, memoranda and other correspondence throughout the anniversary celebrations. Several activities have been lined up, including a health screening programme for MRA staff, a debate competition under the theme “Building Trust, Compliance and National Progress”, a painting competition on “MRA Customs over the Years” for members of the public, and a short video competition entitled “My Tax at Work” for students, aimed at highlighting the contribution of taxation to public services and national development.
