Mauritius and Morocco to enhance cooperation in sustainable water management

With a view to strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of water resources management, Mauritius and the Kingdom of Morocco will sign a Government-to-Government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The MoU will establish a framework for collaboration in key areas, ranging from integrated water resources management, water conservation and demand management, desalination, the development of non-conventional water resources, wastewater treatment, sludge management and reuse to the exchange of experts and technical personnel, as well as climate adaptation strategies and sustainable water infrastructure development.

The agreement also provides for the exchange of information, data and documentation, the undertaking of joint studies and research projects, the organisation of seminars and technical visits, the implementation of pilot projects, and institutional collaboration between the relevant agencies of both countries.

A Joint Technical Committee will be established to coordinate and monitor the implementation of activities under the MoU.

The partnership will enable Mauritius to benefit from Morocco's extensive expertise in desalination technologies, wastewater treatment and integrated water resources management, while promoting capacity building, knowledge and technology transfer, and enhancing the resilience and sustainability of the water sector.
