Japan-funded partnership to boost plastic circular economy initiatives

A project document entitled “Plastic Circular Economy Knowledge Exchange for Japan–Mauritius Business Collaboration” will be signed between the Ministry of Environment, Solid Waste Management and Climate Change and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

Funded by the Government of Japan through UNIDO, the project will provide Mauritius with financial support amounting to USD 166,666 (approximately Rs 8 million) to advance sustainable plastic waste management and circular economy initiatives.

Launched in April 2026, the project is aligned with the Circular Economy Roadmap and the Roadmap for a Plastic Pollution-Free Mauritius. It will be implemented through a gender-inclusive, business-oriented knowledge exchange initiative aimed at strengthening collaboration between Mauritian stakeholders and Japanese private sector partners with expertise in plastic circular economy technologies and practices.
