Minister Jeetun outlines achievements and sets targets for financial services sector
The Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun, held a townhall meeting, this afternoon, in Ebène, with representatives of the Ministry's four departments, namely the Financial Services Unit, the Anti Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism Unit, the Office of Public Sector Governance and the Economic Planning Unit.
The meeting focused on strengthening performance, enhancing collaboration and aligning strategic priorities for the coming financial year. It provided a platform for a structured review of performance over the past financial year, the presentation of key priorities and performance targets for the year ahead, and discussions on the challenges and opportunities facing the financial services sector.
Addressing the participants, Dr Jeetun emphasised the importance of adopting a performance driven culture rather than a process driven approach within the public sector. She stated that the financial services sector remains a key pillar of the economy, contributing significantly to Gross Domestic Product and direct taxation. She further stated that the Ministry had implemented most of the budget measures assigned to it, demonstrating a strong focus on delivery and results.
Minister Jeetun also highlighted several key achievements, including the implementation of the National FinTech Strategy 2026-2030, progress achieved under Vision 2050, and the coordinated response of the Ministry to international developments affecting the financial services sector. She stated that these outcomes had been achieved through the collective efforts of all departments, which had strengthened the position of Mauritius as an international financial centre.
Looking ahead, Dr Jeetun outlined the priorities of the Ministry for the coming financial year, which include the consolidation of ongoing reforms and the strengthening of key initiatives across the financial services ecosystem. She called upon all departments to ensure timely execution of projects, effective planning of activities and continuous monitoring of progress in order to meet set targets.
Moreover, she encouraged open communication and collaboration across all teams and stated that the townhall meeting was intended to promote a two-way exchange of views and ensure alignment with the strategic objectives of the Ministry for the year ahead.
