The Minister of Industry, SMEs and Cooperatives, Mr Aadil Ameer Meea, urged enterprises to participate in the National Productivity and Quality Excellence Award (NPQEA) 2026 and to continue promoting excellence and innovation in their operations, in support of a more productive, competitive and resilient Mauritian economy.

He was speaking yesterday at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation in the Côte D’Or Technopole in Réduit during the launching ceremony of the NPQEA 2026, designed to recognise enterprises for their outstanding achievements and cultivate a culture of productivity and competitiveness in all sectors of the economy. The Executive Director of the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council, Dr Vinaye Ancharaz, and other personalities were also present at the event.

Prior to the launching ceremony, stakeholders and representatives from several enterprises attended a training workshop focusing on the Internet of Things (IoT) project, aimed at boosting Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) productivity using smart, data-driven technologies.

In his address Minister Ameer Meea emphasised the importance of preparing Mauritius for the future through innovation, productivity and continuous improvement, while noting that the country has consistently chosen to pursue progress and adaptation in response to global economic and technological changes.

Referring to the IoT workshop, he highlighted the need for enterprises to embrace emerging technologies, strengthen innovation and enhance their ability to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving environment. He further expressed his appreciation to international partners supporting the initiative, including collaborators from Japan, South Africa, Colombia and the African Union Development Agency.

With regard to the NPQEA, the Minister underlined that excellence in quality, productivity and innovation is essential in an increasingly competitive global economy. Enterprises, he stated, must work towards improving their systems and processes to contribute to enhance the reputation and credibility of the Made in Moris label. Productivity, technology adoption and process efficiency will be key elements of the new Industry Bill currently being prepared by the Ministry, he added.

The NPQEA is an initiative of the Ministry of Industry, SMEs and Cooperatives in collaboration with the National Productivity and Competitiveness Council. Its main objectives are to raise awareness on the need to promoting organisational excellence, braving competitiveness and inspire enterprises to pursue continuous enhancement in quality.
