Clinical Training Framework to strengthen Medical Education in Mauritius
The Ministry of Health and Wellness will sign a Clinical Training Framework Agreement with the International Institute of Medicine and Management (IIMM) Studies (Mauritius) Limited, paving the way for enhanced clinical training opportunities for medical students while supporting the development of a skilled healthcare workforce.
The agreement establishes a structured collaboration between the Ministry and IIMM Studies (Mauritius) Limited to facilitate the clinical training of the institution's medical students at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam National Hospital, specialised hospitals and Primary Health Care Centres across Mauritius.
Under the framework, students will receive practical clinical exposure in public healthcare institutions under the supervision of qualified healthcare professionals. The training will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines and standards set by the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Higher Education Commission, ensuring that students acquire the necessary clinical competencies in a safe and regulated learning environment.
The agreement also clearly defines the respective roles and responsibilities of the Ministry, IIMM Studies (Mauritius) Limited and the medical students. It sets out the terms and conditions governing the clinical training programme, including supervision arrangements, professional conduct and compliance with established protocols.
The Clinical Training Framework Agreement is expected to reinforce collaboration between the public health sector and higher education institutions, while contributing to the training of future medical practitioners equipped with the practical knowledge and skills required to meet the evolving healthcare needs of the population.
