The Construction of Slip Lane on Côte d’Or Road (B48) and Motorway M3 (Southbound) project was officially launched today at Côte d’Or by the Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness.

The Junior Minister, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry; the Chairman of the Road Development Authority, Mr Vinay Koonjul; and other personalities were also present.

In a statement Minister Gunness highlighted that the newly constructed Hermitage Bypass provides an alternative route for road users travelling from the south, Midlands and Belle Rive, amongst other regions, towards Motorway M3 at Côte d’Or. This, he pointed out, has encouraged commuters to use Côte D’Or Road (B48), resulting in heavier traffic flows towards Motorway M3, particularly during peak hours.

He underlined that the slip lane, to the tune of some Rs 24 million and expected to be completed by the end of June 2026, will separate traffic exiting towards Ebène from traffic continuing on B48 Road towards Côte d’Or/Moka and commuters heading towards the North. As such, traffic fluidity will be improved in the region once the project is completed, he added.

Mr Gunness further informed that another phase of the project will comprise the upgrading of B48 Road over an approximate length of 900 metres and will be carried out once funds are available.

The works consist of the following: clearing of site; construction of a slip lane of approximately 450 metres long and 3.5 metres wide with a 1.5 metres wide shoulder; upgrading and resurfacing of B48 road at the approach of the roundabout on M3; relocation and protection of existing services; upgrading of drainage and retaining structures; provision of miscellaneous road equipment such as carriageway markings, traffic signs, safety fences and road lighting; and landscaping.
