Mauritius and Yashoda Hospitals partner to elevate cancer care
The
Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo, met Dr
Sreekanth Chakravaram, Surgical Oncologist at Yashoda Hospitals, India, as well
as patients who underwent surgery under his care at the National Cancer Centre
in Phoenix, yesterday.
The Indian expert is currently in Mauritius on a one-week voluntary mission to conduct outpatient consultations and specialised cancer surgeries on eight patients.
The visit forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen specialised oncology services and provide Mauritian patients with access to advanced surgical expertise.
In a statement, Minister Bachoo highlighted that Mauritius is benefiting significantly from an ongoing Memorandum of Understanding with Yashoda Hospitals. He expressed gratitude for this ongoing collaboration, and wished for the continuation of this partnership for the benefit of Mauritian patients.
The Minister recalled that under this partnership with Yashoda Hospitals, an Indian vascular surgeon successfully performed 35 complex surgeries, while two Mauritian doctors received specialised training in advanced medical care.
As for Dr Chakravaram, he thanked the Ministry of health and wellness for the opportunity to contribute his expertise. He indicated that four patients have already successfully undergone surgeries.
