About the centenarian

Born on 23 June 1926 in Curepipe, Mrs Pauguy is the daughter of the late Mr Jean Arnold Pithia, a self-employed carpenter, and Mrs Marie Valentine Goolamsing, a homemaker. She grew up in a family of three children and is today the sole surviving sibling.

She married Mr Louis Raoul Pauguy on 31 January 1949 and the couple settled at Cité Malherbe, Curepipe. Mrs Pauguy worked as a babysitter, while her husband was employed as a carpenter at General Construction Co Ltd until his passing in June 1992. Together, they raised six children, namely two daughters and four sons. Her family has since expanded to include seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The centenarian enjoys non-vegetarian meals, particularly fish and chicken curry accompanied by pickles. Her hobbies include sewing and cooking. A devoted supporter of Manchester United, she enjoys watching football matches and remains an enthusiastic fan of the sport.

Mrs Pauguy attributes her longevity to a life of hard work, good hygiene practices and unwavering faith in God.
