Mauritius and Italy to deepen cooperation in Higher Education and Research
With a view to strengthening international academic cooperation and enhancing the quality of tertiary education and research, Cabinet has agreed to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science and Research and the Università Politecnica delle Marche of the Italian Republic.
The proposed collaboration seeks to enhance the mobility and exchange of students, academics and researchers while fostering cooperation in several fields of mutual interest including Teacher Education, Nursing, Paramedicine, Hospitality and Tourism. Through this partnership, students will be empowered with the knowledge, practical competencies and international exposure necessary to contribute meaningfully to these professional sectors.
The initiative forms part of Government's broader strategy to internationalise the Mauritian tertiary education sector and position the country as a regional centre of excellence for higher education, research and innovation.
The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding is expected to generate significant strategic benefits for local public higher education institutions and the country at large. It will contribute to the development of a highly skilled and globally competitive workforce, strengthen institutional partnerships and create new opportunities for academic and research collaboration.17 June 2026
