The prices of both Gas Oil (diesel) and MoGas (gasoline) will remain unchanged, following the decision of the Petroleum Pricing Committee (PPC), which met today. Moreover, there is no shortage of petroleum products on the local market.

The Minister of Commerce and Consumer Protection, Mr John Michaël Tzoun Sao Yeung Sik Yuen, made this announcement during a press conference held this afternoon at the seat of his Ministry in Ebène. The aim was to reassure the population that there is no shortage of fuel in both Mauritius and Rodrigues.

The Minister stated that current MoGas stocks stand at approximately 12,000 metric tonnes, while Gas Oil reserves amount to about 13,600 metric tonnes. He indicated that these quantities are sufficient to last until 4 April 2026, with a new shipment of petroleum products expected on 18 March 2026.

Mr Yeung Sik Yuen recalled that the PPC meets every four months, or more frequently, if necessary, to review fuel prices. He also explained the crude oil refining process to help consumers better understand the differences between crude oil and refined petroleum products such as MoGas and Gas Oil.

The Minister pointed out that fuel prices are assessed based on both past trends and projected prices over a six-month period. He underlined that if prices increase or decrease by more than 4%, the PPC generally recommends an adjustment to fuel prices.

Despite the current global geopolitical situation not impacting petroleum product prices for the time being, Minister Yeung Sik Yuen cautioned that prices could rise in the future. He added that the Ministry and the State Trading Corporation are closely monitoring developments.

He moreover observed that the deficit of the Price Stabilisation Account has been reduced from Rs 3.4 billion in 2024 to Rs 1.5 billion to date.
