France Boyer De La Giroday SSS marks 30 years of educational excellence
The France Boyer De La Giroday State Secondary School celebrated its 30th anniversary, today with an official ceremony in Plaine Magnien, marked by the launch of a commemorative school magazine and the unveiling of a Laureate Board and a commemorative plaque honouring the institution's achievements over the past three decades.
The event was graced by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharambeer Gokhool; the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Dhananjay Ramful; and the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad.
In his keynote address, President Gokhool described the school's pearl jubilee as a landmark milestone, stating that its continued excellence remains a source of national pride. He also praised the school's forward-thinking use of technology, underscoring the importance to stay at the forefront of educational innovation.
Mr Gokhool outlined the significant contributions of Ms France Boyer De La Giroday—a distinguished educator and social worker—toward the empowerment of Mauritian women. He urged students to honour her legacy by pairing academic excellence with the right mindset and attitude.
Additionally, the President encouraged them to build self-confidence and set ambitious goals, emphasising that lifelong learning is essential. He insisted that they remain focused on a greater purpose: serving the community and consistently acting with integrity.
As for Minister Ramful, he highlighted that since its establishment, the institution has enabled countless students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to forge their future and drive national progress. Furthermore, he underlined the importance of fostering strong values, ethics, discipline, and perseverance—qualities he qualified as the defining pillars of success for the students, the community, and the Nation.
Dr Mahend Gungapersad underscored the school’s ethos and climate as key to fostering strong student discipline and driving their excellent academic performance. He reiterated Government's steadfast commitment to providing top-tier infrastructure, human resources, and materials to ensure quality education for everyone.
To better support students’ diverse talents and abilities, he noted that the education system is being revamped through initiatives like the Foundation Programme and the three-credit system. He reassured that Government remains dedicated to providing every student with equal opportunities to succeed.
The Minister urged the students to embrace perseverance, compassion, altruism, and humanity, while stressing the necessity of expanding their multidisciplinary knowledge.
