Health Minister Meets Indian Specialist Dr Sriprakash Duraisamy

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo met Dr Sriprakash Duraisamy, Consultant for Head and Neck and Skull Base Surgery at the Apollo Cancer Centre in Chennai, India, on Friday 27 February 2026 at the Ear, Nose and Throat Hospital in Vacoas.

Dr Duraisamy was in Mauritius on a professional visit, during which he examined ten patients suffering from head and neck cancers and performed surgical procedures on eight of them.

In his address, the Minister expressed gratitude to Dr Duraisamy for his dedication and outstanding contribution. He commended the specialist’s extensive expertise, professional experience and humility.

Mr Anil Kumar Bachoo indicated that Dr Sriprakash Duraisamy had undertaken complex surgical procedures that are expected to yield positive outcomes for the patients concerned.

Moreover, he recalled that Mauritius continues to benefit from substantial support from India in delivering specialised medical treatments locally. He noted that this collaboration significantly reduces the financial burden associated with overseas medical care for Mauritian patients.

As for Dr Duraisamy, he underscored that the successful conduct of the surgeries was made possible through the support of the local health personnel. He commended the department’s healthcare professionals for their outstanding knowledge, adding that he was pleased to contribute further by sharing his expertise.

Profile of Dr Sriprakash Duraisamy

He possesses extensive experience in complex head and neck ablative surgeries, organ preservation strategies for head and neck cancers, minimally invasive and robotic surgery, as well as laser microsurgery for throat cancers. His areas of specialisation also include thyroid, parathyroid and parotid gland surgeries, head and neck reconstructive procedures, and the management and rehabilitation of swallowing disorders.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Duraisamy serves as a tutor to postgraduate students in surgical oncology and has authored several publications in peer-reviewed medical journals.
