The Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, inaugurated, this morning, a link road along the Sir Edgar Laurent Street in Curepipe. This project aims to enhance connectivity and road network within the region of Bigara, while enabling road users to avoid long detours.

In a statement, Minister Gunness recalled that the project, to the tune of some Rs 17,9 million, was carried out by General Construction Ltd and works spanned over seven months. He observed that the Sir Edgar Laurent Street is a shortcut which connects the region of Bigara and Phoenix-Plaissance Road A10. However, there was a discontinuity of some 100 metres along the of the Sir Edgar Laurent Street due to the presence of a canal nearby.

This link road, emphasised the Minister, now enables inhabitants of Atlee, Joachim and the vicinity to avoid long detours through narrow lateral roads to access Bigara region and the other part of the Sir Edgar Laurent Street. Other projects in the region are also under way and will soon be completed, he added.

The construction of the link road comprised of: excavation works; construction of the new road of 100 metres long and 5 metres wide; construction of new reinforced concrete culvert of dimension 2.4 metres wide and 2.4 metres deep; construction of roadside drain; relocation of services; and provision of road furniture.
