Some 100 cyclists are expected to compete in the event, which will adhere to the strict security norms of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) governing international cycling competitions.

The announcement was made, this afternoon, by the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Paul Raymond Bérenger, at the Lunch Room of the National Assembly in Port Louis, where the first preparatory session was convened.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Darmarajen Nagalingum along with various Ministers and Junior Ministers were present for the session. The Commissioner of Police, Mr Rampersad Sooroojebally as well as representatives of District and Municipal Councils and the Fédération Mauricienne de Cyclisme also attended the event.

In his address, Deputy Prime Minister Bérenger underscored the importance of the cycling event and pointed to the challenges ahead, notably in terms of infrastructure, to ensure its success. He called for the full participation and support of all stakeholders so that the Tour de Maurice 2026 may achieve strong regional and national visibility.

According to Mr Bérenger, the Tour de Maurice could serve as a springboard and an example for the organisation of other sporting activities and to encourage other sports federations. He expressed the hope that its success would pave the way for Mauritius to host further international competitions, including football.

The Tour de Maurice will also serve as a platform to raise awareness on road safety among all road users stated the DPM. He further informed that the Minister of Youth and Sports will chair the task force, comprising other Ministers and stakeholders, to oversee the preparations.

The Minister of Youth and Sports reaffirmed Government’s active commitment to promoting sporting activities and hosting international competitions. He highlighted that the Tour de Maurice 2026 will contribute to positioning Mauritius as both a sports and green destination, with international media organisations expected to cover not only the sporting performances but also the island’s touristic appeal.

Moreover, Mr Nagalingum stated that several venues and facilities will be mobilised for the event, including Anjalay Stadium, Germain Comarmond Stadium and the Côte d’Or National Sports Complex, as well as the roads on which the races will be conducted. He appealed for the collaboration of all stakeholders to ensure the smooth organisation and success of the Tour de Maurice 2026.
