The 12th and final regional consultation in line with Vision 2050 was held yesterday at the Multipurpose Hall in Plaine des Papayes, bringing to a close a nationwide exercise focused on Mauritius’ long-term development agenda.
The Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun, the Minister of Local Government, Mr Ranjiv Woochit, and other personalities were present.
A wide range of stakeholders from the region attended the session, including economic operators, students, youth representatives and senior citizens. The Consultation provided a platform for participants to share their perspectives and aspirations for the future of the country, while fostering a forward-looking approach centred on sustainable national development.
Discussions focused on priority areas expected to shape Mauritius in the coming decades, in line with Vision 2050, which is structured around three pillars: prosperity, sustainability and inclusion.
In her address, Dr Jeetun underlined the importance of Vision 2050 as a consultative and inclusive initiative that brings together stakeholders from different sectors to reflect on the country’s future. She stressed that the exercise aims to ensure that Mauritius is better prepared for the future that will be inherited by coming generations.
Minister Jeetun also pointed out the need to address current and emerging challenges such as energy and water constraints, labour market issues and an ageing population, while anticipating future needs through long-term planning. She further noted that several present challenges could have been mitigated through stronger forward planning, and reaffirmed Government’s commitment to the implementation of Vision 2050, stressing that its success will depend on sustained and coordinated efforts from all stakeholders.
For his part, Minister Woochit underlined the importance of the Vision 2050 initiative, stating that it is expected to support economic growth and improve the quality of life of citizens, in line with Government priorities. He further indicated that several initiatives are already underway, with additional measures planned in the coming days to further enhance living conditions across the country.
