Mauritius to host IOC's Regional One Health Forum
GIS – 17 March 2026: The Indian Ocean Commission (IOC), through its SEGA – One Health Network, will organise a Regional One Health Forum from 30 to 31 March 2026 at the Institut Français de Maurice in Rose Hill . The event will bring together experts and stakeholders engaged in human, animal and environmental health with a view to reinforcing regional cooperation in addressing emerging and complex health threats , highlighted the Chargée de Mission of the IOC, Ms Juliette Janin during a press conference today at the IOC Headquarters in Ebene . K ey partners, including the Chargée de mission of the Agence Française de Développement, Mrs Sadna Ammearally-Nistar were present. Ms Janin outlined the key objectives of the forum which is to provide a platform for IOC Member States to engage in in-depth discussions, exchange best practices and develop coordinated responses to health alerts and crises as well as strengthening the regional epidemiological surveillance network. The forum is being organised as part of activities in line with The One Health Summit to be held in France on 7 April 2026, coinciding with World Health Day , she stated. The Coordinator for SEGA One Health Network, Dr Harena Rasamoelina, pointed out that the f orum will serve as a knowledge-sharing platform, enabling participa nts to benefit from expertise in tackling health challenges. It will also highlight emerging career pathways and promote capacity-building initiatives, including the presentation of two Master’s programmes aimed at developing the next generation of professionals. The SEGA – One Health Network brings together the five IOC Member States, namely the Union of the Comoros, Réunion, Madagascar, Mauritius and Seychelles. The overall aim of the SEGA – One Health Network is to strengthen health safety in the IOC area.
