A footbridge of a height of 5.5 meters connecting Northbound to Southbound Motorway is being constructed at Quay D, Roche-Bois in view to facilitate pedestrian crossing and ensure safety of citizens along the route. The project has reached 40% of completion and will be operational in April 2023.<\/p>

In this context, the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Local Government and Disaster Risk Management, Dr Mohammad Anwar Husnoo, and the Minister of National Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr Mahendranuth Sharma Hurreeram, effected a site visit to take stock of progress of works as regards the project.<\/p>

In a statement, the Acting Prime Minister indicated the construction forms part of the Quad D flyover project to modernise road networks and ease the flow of traffic. The Quay D flyover project, he recalled, to the tune of Rs 350 million is part of a major infrastructural development in the region which will provide a better road interface through safer access and improve the lives of inhabitants.<\/p>

He also spoke of the difficulties and danger faced by the inhabitants in the particular region adding that some 6 000 vehicles pass thru this route hourly which cause huge traffic congestion especially during peak time.<\/p>

Government, he underlined, is investing massively to further modernise the road network around the country and improve the quality of lives of citizens.<\/p>

Quay D flyover project<\/b><\/p>

The Quay D roundabout is a major access point for the port area and operates during both peak and off-peak hours with subsequent queuing along Motorway M2 and adjacent roads. In a bid to facilitate the traffic flows in the region, the construction of a flyover at Quay D roundabout was proposed.<\/p>

The project comprises the elimination of Quay D roundabout and continuity of Motorway M2; a fly over (single carriageway) across Motorway M2; traffic scheme with slips lanes on both sides of the Motorway to connect the Port Area and existing roundabouts along Military Road; and a footbridge. \u00a0\u00a0<\/p>
