Health Ministry receives Medical Beds and Wheelchairs from Bangladesh High Commission

Ten medical beds along with ten wheelchairs were donated by the High Commission of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, this morning, at the Dr A. G. Jeetoo Hospital, Port Louis. The equipment was handed over by the High Commissioner of the People's Republic of Bangladesh to the Republic of Mauritius, Dr Zokey Ahad, in a gesture of goodwill strengthening the cooperation between Mauritius and Bangladesh in the health sector.

The ceremony was held in presence of the Minister of Housing and Lands, Mr Shakeel Mohamed; the Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations, Mr Reza Uteem; the Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, Mrs Anishta Babooram; the Junior Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Hambyrajen Narsinghen; and Member of National Assembly, Mr Ehsan Juman.

In his keynote address, Minister Shakeel Mohamed highlighted that the existing bilateral ties and friendship between Mauritius and Bangladesh have been further strengthened by this generous gesture. He noted the special relationship shared with Bangladesh, pointing out the vital contributions of Bangladeshi workers across many key sectors of the Mauritian economy.

Speaking about Government’s commitment to implementing parallel imports, he emphasised that this initiative will directly benefit citizens by providing access to authentic products and competitive pricing across a wider range of goods, including pharmaceuticals. He further underscored that this strategic move will position Mauritius as a key re-export hub for the African continent.

As for the Junior Minister, Mrs Anishta Babooram, she expressed her sincere gratitude to the Government of Bangladesh for its steadfast support of the Mauritian healthcare system. Reaffirming the Government's resolve to delivering the best healthcare services to the Nation, the Junior Minister paid tribute to the dedication and resilience of frontline health workers who continue to safeguard public well-being amid prevailing challenges

Highlighting the enduring fraternal bonds between Bangladesh and Mauritius, High Commissioner Dr Zokey Ahad, lauded the efficiency and high standards of the Mauritian healthcare system in delivering vital medical care to the public.
