The Inter-College Sports Competition 2026, jointly organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Ministry of Education and Human Resource, kickstarted this morning at the Côte-d’Or National Sports Complex. The opening ceremony featured a parade of athletes and participating colleges, performances by the Police Band and Majorettes as well as oath taking by athletes and officials,

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr Darmarajen Nagalingum; the Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad; and the Junior Minister of Youth and Sports, Mrs Karen Foo Kune-Bacha, were present on the occasion.

Speaking at the event, Minister Nagalingum highlighted that the Inter-College Sports Competition has been reintroduced in recognition of the immense potentials and talents of the youth. He observed that last year’s competition successfully identified several talented athletes, who are receiving coaching to hone their skills and participate in national and international competitions.

Furthermore, the Minister emphasised new Governmental initiatives designed to help youngsters thrive in supportive environments, with one such program being, 'Anou Transform Nou Landrwa,' which aims to empower youth by fostering a sports culture in areas challenged by social issues.

As for Minister Gungapersad, he highlighted that the primary goal of reintroducing the Competition was to reignite the youth's passion for competitive sports. He pointed out that every participant, regardless of the outcome, emerges as a winner.

Moreover, he urged students to integrate the principles of discipline and fair play acquired through the competition, into their daily lives.
