GIS - 25 August 2023: Two collective agreements concerning an increase in the remuneration of some 235 employees were signed at the Rose Belle Sugar Estate (RBSE), in presence of the Chairman of the RBSE, Mr Suntoobacus Hurryduth, and the General Manager of the RBSE, Mr Hemprakash Dhotah.
The first agreement was signed between the RBSE Board and the Sugar Industry Labourer's Union, the Plantation Worker’s Union and the Artisans and General Worker’s Union. As for the second agreement, it was signed between the RBSE Board (Non-Agricultural Workers), the Union of Artisans and Allied Workers of the Cane Industry, the Artisans and the General Worker’s Union.
Mr Hurryduth indicated that following the implementation of the agreements, the employees of RBSE will benefit an increase in their remuneration for a period of three years. He underlined that the RBSE has been in constant negotiations to review the salary of its employees and to find new means of operation for greater sustainability.
As for Mr Dhotah, he recalled that the previous agreement signed in 2014 was valid until December 2017 adding that it was essential to enter into a new collective Agreement for negotiation purposes with a view to upgrading the existing terms and conditions of employment of the employees of the RBSE.
The RBSE, he informed, has been in the phase of revamping itself so as to improve its efficiency and diversity in its operations. Several projects have thus been implemented namely: production of Green energy with the assistance of the Central Electricity Board, the construction of the second phase of a residential Morcellement of 60 arpents, the construction of a business park in Rose Belle, and the setting up of a platform for Hydroponic activities.
