• Youth Excellence Award Ceremony 2012
29 September - Awards are presented, at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka, to winners of the 5th edition of the Youth Excellence Award. The objective of the Award is to reward outstanding performance of young people in various areas of interest as well as promote high youth achievers as role models to inspire other youth.
• Study Mauritius Office website launched
29 September - The Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology launches Study Mauritius Office Website providing information on programmes offered by public and private Tertiary Education Institutions operating in Mauritius and overseas. The new tool aims at facilitating access to information for both potential local and foreign students.
• Launching of PSEA 2012
28 September – Launching of the Public Service Excellence Award (PSEA) 2012 at the Sir Harilall Vaghjee Memorial Hall in Port Louis. The objective is to assess, inspire and celebrate excellence in the public sector by rewarding and recognising all the efforts made by the civil servants who perform in the Public Service.
• Award of certificates to personnel from SMF
28 September – Award of certificates to 16 personnel from the Special Mobile Force, Fire Services Department, Special Supporting Unit, National Coast Guard and SAMU who have followed a course ‘Secourisme Sauvetage Déblaiement’ conducted by two trainers from ‘Brigade des Sapeurs Pompiers de Paris’ and from Reunion Island.
• ICT Discussion Forum
28 September – Discussion forum, at Ebène Cyber-city, focuses on Building Sustainable knowledge Societies and the use of ICTs. The resource person is Dr Indrajit Banerjee, Director Knowledge Societies Division, Communication and Information Sector from the UNESCO, Paris, France.
• Trade and Investment Opportunities in Mozambique
27 September – Opening of a workshop in Port Louis with focus on Trade and Investment Opportunities in Mozambique. Participants are given an overview of the major sectors in which the potential for investment exists. These include: agriculture, fisheries, transport, building and construction.
• Seminar for Human Resource managers of the private sector
27 September – Opening of a one-day seminar for some 70 Human Resource managers of the private sector in Port Louis. The aim is to help them adopt best practices with regard to the Employment Rights Act and the Employment Relations Act and also to better understand the provisions of the Remuneration Order governing their particular sectors.
• WIFI Launched at Quartier Militaire District Council
27 September – Wireless Fidelity (WIFI) is launched at the Quartier Militaire District Council. The project consists of installing base transmission stations on local authorities’ premises to provide WIFI service enabling Mauritians have access to free internet connectivity.
• Opening of SME & Technology Fair 2012
27 September – Opening of the 8th edition of the SME & Technology Fair 2012 at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre at Pailles. This initiative of the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority aims to impart more vitality and growth impetus to the SME sector to enable it to contribute its full potential to the economy.
• Press Conference by Equal Opportunities Commission
26 September - Press conference by the Chairperson of the Equal Opportunities Commission at the headquarters of the Commission in Port Louis. The focus is on the celebration of an Equal Opportunities Day on 27 September each year and the Commission’s sensitisation campaign.
• Site Visit by Minister Seetaram
25 September – Site visit by the Minister of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives, Mr Jangbahadoorsing Seetaram to the Camp-Fouquereaux Cooperative Society, a self-service supermarket founded in 1948 which is one of the most innovative and successful cooperatives in Mauritius.
• Procurement Officials Receive Certificates
24 September – A batch of 160 procurement officials who have followed a Certification Programme in Public Procurement receive their certificates at the Sir Harilal Vaghjee Memorial Hall in Port Louis. The course is conducted by the University of Technology, Mauritius, (UTM) in collaboration with the Procurement Policy Office.
• Key Repo Rate Remains Unchanged at 4.9 percent
24 September – Meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Mauritius in Port Louis. The Committee decides to keep the Key Repo Rate unchanged at 4.9 percent per annum.
• Launching of Energy Efficiency Week
24 September – Launching of the Energy Efficiency Week at the MITD House in Phoenix. The objective is to highlight initiatives of energy efficiency in sectors such as transport, industrial, construction, domestic and services with a view of sensitising stakeholders and to create a synergy around the management of energy.
• Press Conference by Central Water Authority (CWA)
24 September – A press conference is held by the Chairperson, Mr Prem Saddul, assisted by high officials of the CWA, the Water Resources Unit and the Meteorological Services. The main areas of focus: trends in rainfall patterns and forecast; water storage and projections; major ongoing CWA projects; CWA outreach activities; and responsibility of consumers.
• Workshop on Greenstone
24 September – A workshop on the Greenstone software is held till 28 September at the Mauritius Institute of Health (MIH) in Pamplemousses. Organised by the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie and the MIH, the workshop aims to equip participants with skills necessary to master the software and eventually to set up digital libraries.
• Workshop on Milestone Judgements in Competition Law
24 September – Opening of a two-day Workshop on Milestone Judgements in Competition Law at Le Meridien Hotel. The objective is to offer high-level training on competition issues to judges, officials from Competition authorities and high ranking officials dealing with trade and commerce operating in the African and Indian Ocean Small States
• Positive Returns of Rs 95 billion for NPF and NSF Funds
21 September – The National Pensions Fund (NPF) and the National Savings Fund (NSF) Committee reveals the portfolio of investment of the NPF and that of the NSF which amount to over Rs 79 billion and Rs 15 billion respectively at end of June 2012, totaling approximately Rs 95 billion.
• FSC Wins Most Innovative Capital Market Regulator Award
21 September – The Financial Services Commission (FSC) Mauritius wins for the second time the Africa Investor Most Innovative Capital Market Regulator of the Year Award, during a summit organised at the initiative of Africa Investor in collaboration with the New York Stock Exchange Euronext.

20 September – Two-day seminar for secretary generals of the Association of National Olympic committees of Africa (ACNOA) opens at the Grand Baie International Conference Centre. It brings together participants from more than 52 African countries to discuss the theme ACNOA, 30 years after: What vision for the future?
• International Masters Football Festival – Press Conference
19 September – The Minister of Youth and Sports elaborates on the 7th International Masters Football Festival. The Competition will be held from 21 to 23 September 2012 at the George V Stadium.

• Government Donates 100 000 USD to Support Natural Calamities Victims
18 September – The Mauritian Government donates 100 000 USD to Madagascar (50 000 USD) and the Union of Comoros (50 000 USD) to assist in the reconstruction process of these two countries and as a token of Mauritius’ solidarity with all those affected by natural calamities that hit the two countries in 2012.
• Regional Integration: Workshop on Opportunities in COMESA Market
18 September – One-day workshop, in Port Louis, focuses on Opportunities in the COMESA (Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa) Market. The objective is to apprise local operators about existing market opportunities in the region and latest developments pertaining to both goods and services.
• 9th Conference of the Southern Africa and Islands Hydrographic Commission
18 September – The 9th Conference of the Southern Africa and Islands Hydrographic Commission (SAIHC) kicks off at the Pearle Beach Resort & Spa, Wolmar, Flic en Flac. The two-day event focuses on improving charting and surveying in the region and capacity building in hydrography and cartography.
• Ozone Layer Protection and Climate Change
17 September – One-day workshop on Ozone Layer Protection and Climate Change to commemorate the 25th Anniversary of the Montreal Protocol and International Ozone Day opens at Le Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, Port Louis. The workshop is marked by the presentation of a commemorative plaque by the UNDP Resident Representative to the Government of Mauritius and the launching of a Pocket Book on Climate and Ozone Layer Protection.

17 September – The Mauritius Research Council organises a half-day seminar on intellectual property rights and plant varieties in the context of the Inventors’ Open Day which aims at promoting awareness and the use of Intellectual Property.

17 September – Opening of the 2nd edition of the Private Equity Mauritius (PEM) 2012 Conference at the Intercontinental Hotel in Balaclava. The event aims at strengthening the position of Mauritius as an International Financial Centre. Over 300 delegates attend the conference on the theme: Mauritius, Your Gateway to African Opportunities to share views and recommendations about Mauritius as the preferred home for Private Equities.
• Salary Compensation for Private Sector Employees
13 September – The Vice-Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, announces the quantum of salary compensation for employees of the private sector. The quantum ranges from an increase of Rs 300 to Rs 345, with effect from 1 January 2013.
• Institution of Engineers Mauritius House inaugurated
13 September – The Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Public Infrastructure, National Development Unit, Land Transport and Shipping, inaugurates the Institution of Engineers, Mauritius House, in Quatre Bornes.
• Lecture on New International Norms and the Emerging South
13 September – A lecture on the theme New International Norms and the Emerging South is held in the Lunch Room of the National Assembly in Port Louis. The objective is to explore the way norms are initiated, evolve and eventually get translated into legal concepts and become the subject of international relations.
• Workshop on Seaweed Farming and Processing Industry
13 September – The Mauritius Research Council organises a half-day workshop on seaweed farming and processing industry in Mauritius and Rodrigues at Cybercity, Ebène. The event aims at presenting to stakeholders from the research and industry sectors as well as local fishers the on-going seaweed projects in Mauritius and Rodrigues and providing a platform for discussions.
• Science Fun Day at CEDEM
13 September – The Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre organises a Science Fun Day at the Centre d’Education et de Développement pour les Enfants Mauriciens (CEDEM), Floreal, to engage school children in simple fun activities related to science. CEDEM is an NGO which cares for vulnerable children especially the handicapped, orphans, victims of abuse and poverty.
• National Omnisports Day for Women
13 September – The National Women’s Council, the Commission Nationale du Sport Féminin and the Ministry of Youth and Sports organise a National Omnisports Day for Women at the Sir Gaëtan Duval Stadium, Rose Hill, to promote sports among young girls and women.
• ICT - Infotech 2012 Launched
12 September – The 2012 edition of Infotech is inaugurated at the Swami Vivekananda International Convention Centre, Pailles. The four-day event, organised by the National Computer Board, brings together some 36 exhibitors who showcase their technology and ICT products and services. Infotech aims at creating awareness on emerging technologies and providing business opportunities in the ICT sector.
• 2nd ICT-BPO International Conference
12 September – The 2nd edition of the ICT-BPO International Conference, on the theme The Next Stage of Growth for ICT Development - Harnessing the Potential of Africa opens at the Hilton Resort and Spa, in Flic en Flac. The Conference, scheduled from 12 to 14 September 2012, aims at providing a platform for harnessing ICT-BPO induced development strategies
• Clean-Up the World Campaign 2012
12 September – Clean-Up the World Campaign 2012, an initiative of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, is launched at Plaine des Papayes Social Welfare Centre. In this context, a month-long schedule of activities is organised throughout the island with a view to protecting the environment.
• Workshop on Corporate Governance
12 September - The Office of Public Sector Governance organises a half-day workshop on Corporate Governance on the theme Relevance of Audit Committee in State-Owned Enterprises at Cyber Tower 1 in Ebène. Some 150 Chairpersons, Chief Executive Officers, Board members of Audit Committees and Internal auditors from 30 state-owned enterprises attend the workshop.

11 September – Football Festivals in Primary Schools - Fifa Grassroots Projects 2012, an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, is launched at Burrenchobay Government School, Plaine Magnien.
• Regional Workshop on Coastal East Africa Solid Waste Management
11 September – The Ministry of Local Government and Outer Islands in collaboration with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Embassy of the United States of America, organises from 10 to 13 September 2012 the Coastal East Africa Solid Waste Management Workshop at Flic en Flac. The objectives of the workshop are to brainstorm participants about appropriate solutions for a sustainable solid waste management system and discuss possibilities for replicating best practices in the field of solid waste management.
• Workshop on Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women
11 September – A one-day workshop on the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) is held at the Gold Crest Hotel, Quatre Bornes. The workshop is part of activities organised by the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare to build capacity of members of the National Steering Committee on Gender Mainstreaming on CEDAW and to highlight the role of government officials in promoting CEDAW in the formulation of gender responsive laws, policies and strategies to advance gender equality at national and regional levels.

07 September – The official website of the mini Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) Mauritius is launched by the Minister of Arts and Culture in the presence of the High Commissioner of India to Mauritius and other stakeholders. The 6th edition of the mini PBD will be held from 26 to 28 October 2012 at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute.

07 September – The National Women Council organises a one-day celebration at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, Bell Village, to mark the International Literacy Day. The objective of the International Literacy Day celebration is to highlight the importance of literacy to individuals, communities and societies.

07 September – The Ministry of Public Infrastructure, National Development Unit, Land Transport and Shipping and Singapore Cooperative Enterprise sign an agreement pertaining to the provision of Consultancy Services for the Mauritius Light Rapid Transit (LRT) project.

06 September – Launching of a workshop on Child Online Safety at St Esprit College in Rivière Noire. The objective is to sensitise on the impact of the threats and consequences that improper use of the Internet may have on the youth.
• ICTA Workshop focuses on Spectrum Reform
06 September – A two-day workshop organised by the Information and Communication Technologies Authority (ICTA) focuses on Spectrum Reform at La Cannelle, Domaine Les Pailles. It aims at giving the ICT industry an opportunity to brainstorm on a host of issues including the reform of spectrum management and the framework that is best suited to an island economy.
• Life Skills Education – Presentation of Certificates
06 September – Certificates are presented in Phoenix to 30 instructors of the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) having completed the Life Skills Education Programme of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The fourth cohort, comprising 30 MITD instructors registered to follow the programme, is also launched.
• Marine Ranching Project in Petite Rivière Noire
06 September – Launching of the Marine Ranching Project at Petite Rivière Noire. In the context of the project, some 30,000 silver sea bream (Gueule Pavé) are released in the Petite Rivière Noire Fishing Reserve. The silver sea bream, a winter spawner, was successfully bred at Albion Fisheries Research Centre. It is deemed to have an excellent taste and a high commercial value.
• MoU for Implementation of Prepaid Electricity Meters for Vulnerable Families
06 September – The Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment, the Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities, the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development in partnership with Mauritius Telecom (MT) and the Central Electricity Board (CEB) sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of prepaid electricity meters in favour of underprivileged families.
• MRC: Study on Online Social Networks in Mauritius: Impact on Secondary Education
06 September – The Mauritius Research Council (MRC) organises a half-day seminar at its conference room in Ebène to present findings on a study entitled Online Social Networks in Mauritius: Impact on Secondary Education. The study has been undertaken by the University of Mauritius in the context of the MRC Unsolicited Research Grant Scheme.
• Cooperatives: Award of Certificate Ceremony by NICE
06 September – The National Institute for Cooperative Entrepreneurship (NICE) organises an Award of Certificate Ceremony at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix. The event rewards some 800 people who attended various courses organised by NICE during the International Year of Cooperatives.
• Business Forum on Investment Opportunities in Mauritius
06 September – A business forum on investment opportunities in Mauritius is organised at the Grand Baie International Conference Centre in the context of the 3rd edition of the World Chinese Conference. The forum aims at promoting the advantages of Mauritius as an investment destination and particularly as an ideal gateway for investments in Africa.
• 3rd Edition of World Chinese Conference
06 September – The 3rd edition of the World Chinese Conference kicks off at the Grand Baie International Conference Centre. The event, scheduled from 6 to 9 September 2012, coincides with the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations of Mauritius with the People’s Republic of China and the centenary anniversary of the foundation of the Chinese Middle School.
• 10th ECSACON Scientific Conference
05 September – The Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology opens the 10th East, Central and Southern African College of Nursing (ECSACON) Scientific Conference at La Plantation Hotel, Balaclava. The event, scheduled from 5 to 7 September, focuses on improving maternal and child health care, strengthening health systems and improving primary health care.
• Sensitisation Sessions on Human Rights in CAB
04 September – Sensitisation sessions on Human Rights are held in six Citizen Advice Bureaux (CAB), namely Midlands, Pointe aux Sables, Rivière des Anguilles, Lallmatie, Rose Belle and Grand Baie. Around 360 participants attend those sessions which run until 25 September.
• Civil Service: Workshop on Implementation of HRMIS Project
04 September – The Ministry of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms holds a one-day workshop for Human Resources officers at La Cannelle, Domaine Les Pailles, on the implementation of the Human Resource Management Information System (HRMIS) project. The aim is to discuss the draft system requirements to finalise the project.

03 September – The Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare participates at the 12th Global Conference of Women Entrepreneurs on Trade Liberalisation and its Global Impact on Women Entrepreneurs, organised from 3 to 5 September in New Delhi, India. The objective is to discuss the issues and challenges facing women-owned businesses.
• Profile and Motivation of Women Entrepreneurs in Mauritius
03 September – The Mauritius Research Council (MRC) organises a half-day seminar at its conference room in Ebène to present findings on a study on the Profile and Motivation of Women Entrepreneurs in Mauritius. The study has been undertaken by the University of Mauritius in the context of the MRC Unsolicited Research Grant Scheme.
• International Conference on Ridges and Hotspots
03 September – Opening of five-day international Conference on Ridges and Hotspots around the Mascarene Islands, held at the Tamassa Hotel in Bel Ombre. The aim is to exchange information among scientists actively involved in expeditions carried out during the last 15 years around the Mascarene Islands and also to make plans for future international collaboration with the existing data or additional data to be acquired.
