31 March - The Prime Minister attends the passing out parade for 727 trainee police constables at Gymkhana Grounds, Vacoas.

Health - Training on HIV Transmission
31 March - Opening at Clos St Louis, Domaine Les Pailles of a one-day workshop for the training of midwives on HIV transmission, more specifically mother to child transmission.

SMEs- Foire des PME
31 March - Launching of a Foire des PME in Bel Air Riviere Seche in the context of the International Year of Cooperatives.

Press Conference - Price Observatory Committee
30 March - The Chairperson of the Price Observatory holds a press conference to present the findings of the pricing exercise for March 2012.

ICT - WIFI Mauritius Launched
30 March - Wireless Fidelity Mauritius is launched at the Municipality of Port Louis. The project consists of installing base transmission stations on local authorities’ premises to provide WIFI service enabling Mauritians have access to free internet connectivity.

Launching of Bagatelle Dam project
29 March -The Prime Minister proceeds with the launching of the construction of the Bagatelle Dam across the Terre Rouge River near Côte d’Or village. At the tune of Rs 3,4 billion, the dam will help to ensure, up to the year 2050, a more reliable water supply to the district of Port-Louis and the regions of Lower Plaines Wilhems.

Mauritius/Zambia Bilateral Relations
29 March - The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Tourism of Zambia, Mr Lubinda Given, calls on the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade.

Launching of Science Through Colours Activities
29 March - Opening of two half-days’ activities on Science Through Colours organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre in collaboration with the Indian High Commission and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture. The Science Through Colours has been conceptualised to create scientific awareness through drawing/painting to encourage students to explore scientific thinking.

E-Portal for Local Authorities
29 March - Launching at the Municipality of Port Louis of the E-Governance Portal for local authorities. The Portal aims at providing a platform for enhanced communication between citizens, the business community and local authorities.

SADC Tourism Ministers Meet in Mauritius
March 29 - The Meeting of the SADC Ministers responsible for Tourism opens at the Grand Baie International Conference Centre. Eight Tourism ministers and some 100 delegates from SADC Member States attend the meeting.

Youth - National Youth Achievement Award
29 March - Record Books are presented, in Ebène, to 30 Bronze Award participants from the Colibri School of Stanley for mentally handicapped young people in the context of the National Youth Achievement Award programme. On that same occasion, certificates and Bronze Award are presented to 32 students from Ebène State Secondary School.

Fisheries - Release of fingerlings
29 March - Some 25 000 ‘cordonnier’ fingerlings are released in the Fishing Reserve of Poste La Fayette with a view to rehabilitating the lagoonal ecosystem of Mauritius.

Environment - Workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction
29 March – Opening of an inception workshop on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management related to Climate Change at Le Victoria Hotel, Pointe aux Piments, organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme.

Construction Sector - Workshop Focuses on Skilled Labour Shortage
28 March - One-day workshop Cyber Tower 1, Ebène on the shortage of skilled labour in the construction sector in Mauritius, organised by the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC). The aim is to finalise the findings of a survey carried out by the HRDC in 2011.

MCIA - Agreement Signed with Trade Unions
March 27 - A Memorandum of Agreement is signed in the Lunch Room of the National Assembly between the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security and Trade Unions in the context of the setting up of the Mauritius Cane Industry Authority (MCIA).

World Bank Approves Two DPL of US $ 35 Million
27 March -The World Bank approves two Development Policy Loans (DPL) of US $ 35 million aimed to support key reforms to be implemented both by the public and private sectors in Mauritius. The reforms are expected to help Mauritius build human capital more rapidly, continue to reduce poverty, and further improve the ease of doing business.

Roads – Forbach/Sottise Carriageway
March 27 – The Prime Minister officially opens the 5 km-long carriageway from Sottise to Forbach, which has been constructed to the tune of Rs 249 million.

Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme
26 March - A three-day Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme targeting 60 existing and potential women entrepreneurs is launched at Goodlands Youth Centre.

MRA holds Integrity Week
26 March The Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA) launches an Integrity Week on the theme “Integrity, a cornerstone of MRA's modernisation programme”. Students, taxpayers and stakeholders in general participate in various forums with a view to enhancing their perceptions on the organisation's integrity.

Youth: Training of Trainers Workshop
26 March - A four-day Regional Training of Trainers Workshop, organised in collaboration with the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien, kickstarts at the Helvetia Youth Centre to promote education for citizenship. Participants are from Madagascar, Reunion Island, Seychelles, Mayotte and Mauritius.

Seminar on Wave Energy Development
26 March -A seminar on a project to determine the prospects for “Wave Energy Development around Mauritius” is held in Ebène by the Mauritius Research Council (MRC).

Cooperatives - Seminar for MBA Students
24 March - Some 100 near-to-graduate MBA students participate in a seminar on "The Business Potential of Cooperatives in Mauritius" at the University of Technology, Pointe aux Sables.

22 March - A workshop on ‘Water and Food Security’ and an exhibition at Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, Bell Village, mark World Water Day.

Environment - Workshop Focuses on Coral Reefs
19 March - Workshop at the University of Mauritius “Coral Reef Ecosystem in a changing environment”. This joint initiative of the University of Mauritius, Shizuoka University of Japan and the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology focuses on the impact of the changing environment on the coral reefs.

Finance: Key Repo Rate Reduced by 50 Points to Attain 4.90%
19 March - The Key Repo Rate has been cut by 50 basis points to 4.90 percent per annum following a meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of Mauritius.

19 March - The Minister of External Relations and Cooperation in charge of the Diaspora, the Francophonie and the Arab World of the Union of Comoros, Mr Mohamed Bakri Ben Abdoulfatah Charif, pays a courtesy call on Foreign Affairs Minister.

17 March - Launching of a National Pre-Marital Counselling workshop at the Gold Crest Hotel in Quatre Bornes.

NPF and NSF Funds - Review for 2011
16 March -The portfolio of investment as regards the National Pensions Fund (NPF) and the National Savings Fund (NSF) amounted to over Rs 74 billion and Rs 14 billion respectively at end 2011, reveals the NPF-NSF committee. Both Funds have registered combined assets of an equivalent of Rs 89 billion.

Customs -Mauritius Hosts Donor's Conference
15 March -The World Customs Organisation-Eastern and Southern Africa (WCO-ESA) Donor's Conference opens at Customs House, Mer Rouge. The Conference focuses on donor engagement in funding capacity building progammes and customs-related projects that would benefit Customs administrations in the region.

15 March - The National Women Entrepreneur Council kickstarts, at its premises in Phoenix, an Export Awareness Programme meant to sensitise women entrepreneurs on exportation prospects.

iEPA - An Information Seminar for EU-ESA Stakeholders
14 March - Opening, at the InterContinental Hotel in Balaclava, of a two-day information seminar on the interim Economic Partnership Agreement between the European Union and the Eastern and South African countries (EU–ESA iEPA).

ICT - Task Force on e-Governance
13 March - The 3rd Joint India Mauritius Task Force on e-Governance is launched at Cyber Tower 1, in Ebène. The objective is to finalise discussions on an e-Prison Project as well to explore possible areas of cooperation in the areas of e-Governance namely: capacity building and appointment of a Certifying Authority for the Government of Mauritius.

Seychelles President in Mauritius
12 March - The President of the Republic of Seychelles, Mr. James A. Michel, arrives in Mauritius for a two-day State visit.

National Day Celebrations
12 March - An official ceremony and a cultural show at the Champ de Mars mark the 44th anniversary of Independence and 20th anniversary of the Republic of Mauritius. President Michel of Seychelles is the Chief Guest.

10 March - Launching at the Sir Gaétan Duval stadium in Rose-Hill of the Mauritius Schools Saturday Football League, a project of the Ministry of Youth and Sports

Youth - National Youth Rally
9 March - A National Youth Rally, comprising a Défilé and a Youth Show, is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in the context of 2012 National Day celebrations and National Youth Day.

8 March - A bilateral meeting on issues of mutual interest and of cooperation is held in Port Louis between the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Seychelles.

International Women’s Day 2012
8 March - Celebration of International Women’s Day 2012 at national level at the J & J Auditorium in Phoenix in the presence of Prime Minister. The leading theme at national level this year is Make Gender Equality a Reality.

Workshop on Debt Resolution and Insolvency
7 March - The Registrar of Companies in collaboration with the World Bank organises a one-day workshop on “Implementation of the Insolvency Act 2009-Registering Insolvency Practitioners/Debt Resolution and Business Exit”. The aim is to provide technical assistance to the Insolvency Service, a Unit created under the Insolvency Act 2009 and forming part of the Companies Division.

Tourism - Mauritius No. 1 Honeymoon Destination
7 March – The Mauritius Destination has been awarded the No. 1 Honeymoon Destination Worldwide by Dertour. Dertour belongs to the REWE group which is Germany’s no. 2 tour operator after TUI. Dertour offers various brands under one roof, and targets all clients from FITs, groups, incentive business as well as sports and culture trips.

6 March - Opening of a workshop on Parastatal Reforms and launching of a Parastatal Information System software by the Office of Public Sector Governance.

Food safety - Workshop on Microbiological Testing
6 March - The Ministry of Health and Quality of Life organises a workshop on Microbiological Rapid Testing at Victoria Hospital, Candos with a view to familiarising officers of the Health Inspectorate of the Ministry to use food stamps as Microbiological Rapid Testing Method to improve food safety surveillance.

Signature of MoU between Mauritius and Monaco
6 March- A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) is signed at the MITD, Ebène, outlining the modalities of cooperation for an exchange programme of students and trainers between the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) - Ecole Hôtelière Sir Gaëtan Duval and the Lycée Technique et Hôtelier de Monte-Carlo.

ICT - Mauritius ICT Export Portal
6 March – Launching of the Mauritius ICT Export Portal at Cyber Tower 1 in Ebène Cyber-city. The portal provides a central platform for local ICT companies to access market information and intelligence. It also promotes Mauritius as a Competitive Outsourcing Destination for ICT and BPO/ITES.

Trade and Commerce - Workshop on Trade Remedies
6 March - Opening at Clos St Louis, Domaine Les Pailles, of a two-day workshop on Trade Remedies. The aim is to ensure capacity-building of a team of investigators on the Trade (Anti-dumping and Countervailing Measures) Act.

HIV in Prisons - 5th AHPPN Steering Committee meeting
5 March - The 5th meeting of the Steering Committee of the African HIV in Prisons Partnership Network (AHPPN) opens at Aanari Hotel and Spa at Flic en Flac with the participation of around 20 delegates from 12 African countries.

Law Day
4 March - Law Day is marked by the organisation of law clinics which provide an opportunity to reflect on the role of law in founding a country and its importance for society, to ponder over the legal heritage and to encourage a culture of respect for the rule of law, a fundamental component of a democratic society. The theme for the Day: A Commitment to the Rule of Law.

1 March - First official distribution of fertilisers to planters under the Agricultural Calamity Solidarity Scheme at the St. Pierre Farmers Service Corporation.

Training for Women Entrepreneurs
1 March - Launching at the National Women Entrepreneur Council (NWEC), Phoenix of a two-day training in ‘Finance and Costing’ for women entrepreneurs. The training is a joint initiative of the NWEC and BAI Co. (Mtius) Ltd.

Press conference - MID Action Plan 2012-2015
1 March - The Maurice Ile Durable (MID) Action Plan 2012-2015 will be launched in August 2012, announces the Environment Minister at a press conference. The Plan will include recommendations for an appropriate institutional and legislative framework for sustainable development to ensure a smooth implementation of the priority actions identified.
