Mauritius Business Excellence Award 2012
29 June – Launching of the Mauritius Business Excellence Award 2012 and presentation of awards to the winners of the 4th edition (2011) at Le Meridien Hotel, Pointe aux Piments. The competition aims to reward large, medium and small enterprises in their innovative endeavour and to enhance focus on quality.

 
Kenya-Mauritius: 2nd Joint Trade Committee Meeting
28 June – Some forty participants attend the two-day 2nd Kenya-Mauritius Joint Trade Committee Meeting in Port Louis. Discussions focus on trade, investment, service and communication issues. Private sector collaboration and the setting up of a Joint Business Council are also examined.

 
NYAA - Presentation of Bronze and Silvers Award

28 June – A National Workshop on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development is held at Gold Crest Hotel, Quatre Bornes in the context of the visit of the delegation of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India.

 
HRDC Workshop on Labour Shortage in the Financial Sector
28 June – The findings of a survey on Labour Shortage in the financial sector in Mauritius are validated by stakeholders from the financial sector during a workshop organised by the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC) at La Cannelle, Domaine Les Pailles.

 
New NHDC Housing Complex at Cottage
28 June – Keys of a new NHDC housing complex (60 units) at Residence Cottagia, Cottage, are handed over to residents.

 
Site Visit at the Swami Dayanand Institute of Management
28 June – Site visit at the Swami Dayanand Institute of Management, Pamplemousses, in the context of the creation of a fourth University in Mauritius. The University will take over the functions of the Institut Supérieur de Technologie and the Swami Dayanand Institute of Management.

 
Caravane de la Science
28 June – The Caravane de la Science goes to the Friendship College, Goodlands, for two days stopover. The initiative is in line with the objective of the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre to bring science and technology based activities within the reach of all segments of the population.

 
Insignia and Awards to National Day Awardees
27 June – Insignia and Awards are presented by the Acting President of the Republic to National Day Awardees on 27, 28 and 29 June at State House, Réduit.

 
Waste Segregation Unit at Petit Verger Prison
27 June – Launching of Waste Segregation Unit and of the lime kiln and landscaping project at Petit Verger Prison in line with the Maurice Ile Durable project. Inhabitants of Pointe-aux-Sables as well as the personnel and prisoners of the Petit Verger Prison will use the Unit.

 
Moody’s Upgrades Mauritius Ratings to Baa1 from Baa2
26 June – Upgrading of Mauritius' foreign and local currency Government bond ratings to Baa1 from Baa2 by Moody's Investors Service. The rationale behind the attribution of a Baa1 standard is mostly due to the country’s economic performance, resilience to shocks, the positive growth registered in recent years and Government’s significant progress in reducing its debt-servicing burden.

 
International Year of Cooperatives - Sensitisation of students
25 June – A programme on Sensitisation of students on Cooperatives is organised at Sharma Jugdambi SSS in Goodlands in the context of the International Year of Cooperatives.

 
25th International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking
25 June – A series of activities in the context of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking is launched at the Octave Wiehe auditorium in Réduit. The theme this year is Global Action for Communities in Good Health, Without Drugs.

 
Health – Regional Workshop on Salt Reduction Strategies in the African region
25 June – A three-day sub-regional technical workshop on Creating an enabling environment for population-based salt reduction strategies in the African Region is organised at Le Meridien Hotel, Pointe aux Piments, by the World Health Organisation in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life.

 
Artisanal Fisheries - Pilot Project Launched
22 June – A pilot project, in the context of the International Year of Cooperatives and the 38th anniversary of the MCAF Mauritius Fishermen Cooperative Federation, focuses on Value Chain Development in Artisanal Fisheries. The project aims at improving handling, processing / value additions and marketing activities of the Maison des Pêcheurs at Tamarin.

 
“Silence, on lit!”
22 June – The “Silence, on lit!” project which emphasises the reading aspect in education is launched at Raoul Rivet Government School, Port-Louis.

 
Music Day 2012 - National Talent Show
21 June – A National Talent Show, an initiative of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, is held in the context of Music Day at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Auditorium, Moka.

 
International Year of Cooperatives - Workshop for Leaders
21 June – Leaders of cooperative societies participate in a one-day workshop on Positioning Local Cooperatives through Quality at the National Women Development Centre, in Phoenix.

 
Mauritian Public Key Infrastructure Ecosystem
21 June – The Mauritian Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) Ecosystem is launched at the Hennessy Park Hotel, in Ebène Cyber-city. It aims at creating the right environment to engage e-Commerce and e-Business in a secure and trusted environment. An Information Guide on the Mauritian PKI Ecosystem is also released by the Information and Communications Technologies Authority.

 
Government’s e-Services Workshop
21 June – A half-day workshop on e-Services at the Cyber Tower 1 in Ebène Cyber-city, aims at increasing the usage of e-Services which are currently accessible on the Government Portal.

 
Circular Migration - Employment in Canada
20 June – Holding of a pre-departure briefing session by the Ministry of Labour, Industrial Relations and Employment in Port Louis for a batch of five workers leaving for Canada. The workers will operate as technicians on a two-year contract in the field of Heavy Duty Mechanics in the regions of Regina and Saskatchewan in Canada.

 
Donation of an Ambulance
20 June – An ambulance is donated, under the CSR Programme, by the Mauritius Civil Service Mutual Aid Association Ltd to the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life at the Subramania Bharati Eye Hospital, Moka.

 
Environmentally Safe Trans-Boundary Movement of Hazardous Chemicals and Wastes
18 June - Delegates from eight African countries attend a three-day workshop on Environmentally Safe Trans-Boundary Movement of Hazardous Chemicals and Wastes at Intercontinental Hotel, Balaclava. The workshop aims at enhancing capacity to control and manage, in a sound manner, the movements of chemicals.

 
CWA - Press Conference
18 June – Press conference by the Central Water Authority (CWA) in the context of the accreditation of the CWA laboratory and quality of potable water, water supply situation and re-dynamising the CWA complaints handling mechanism.

 
Child Online Safety
18 June – An awareness campaign on Child Online Safety is launched at the Queen Elizabeth College as part of initiatives in the context of Safer Internet Day observed on 8 February.

 
Youth Clubs Receive Sports Equipment
17 June – Youth Clubs from the Rose Belle region receive sports equipment at the Rose Belle Youth Centre. Winners of an interclub competition are presented prizes on that occasion.

 
State Visit of Prime Minister to Seychelles
16 June – The Prime Minister leaves for a state visit to Seychelles. The PM is the Chief Guest on the occasion of the celebrations of the 19th Anniversary of the National Day of Seychelles. In-depth exchange of views to broaden economic and diplomatic ties and strengthen cooperation in the fields of security, piracy and maritime surveillance are scheduled. Also on the agenda: the signing of Memoranda of Understanding on bilateral cooperation in the health and tertiary education sectors.

16 June – International Day of the African Child is celebrated at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture, Phoenix.

15 June – A site visit is organised by the Road Development Authority for the media regarding the Terre-Rouge-Verdun-Trianon Link Road project, which will be ready by the end of 2013.

 
Social housing - Keys Handed Over to Ten Families
15 June – Keys are handed over jointly by the National Empowerment Foundation (NEF) and the Currimjee Foundation, to ten families in the region of Grand-Port/Savanne under the social housing project initiated by the Integrated Social Development Programme of the NEF.

Research – Skills Training Workshop on Increasing External Funding
12 June – A two-day training workshop on Increasing external funding for research targeting research managers and researchers is organised by the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association in collaboration with the University of Mauritius.

 
Mauritius Hosts Brainstorm Meeting on Labour Mobility in Africa
11 June – A five-day brainstorm meeting on Enhancing Intra-African Cooperation on Migration and Development Policy and Practice kicks off at Bagatelle, with a view to launching an ambitious multi-year initiative to boost labour mobility and skills development in Africa. The event serves as a preparatory platform for the main Global Forum on Migration and Development Summit to be chaired by Mauritius in November this year.

 
MPC Committee Keeps Key Repo Rate at 4.90 per cent
11 June – The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Bank of Mauritius holds its meeting in Port Louis, and decides to keep the Key Repo Rate unchanged at 4.90 per cent per annum.

 
Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme
11 June – A three-day Women Entrepreneurship Development Programme at the Chemin Grenier Youth Centre sensitises 70 existing and potential women entrepreneurs on the various procedures involved in the setting up of an enterprise.

 
Mauritius/ South Africa – Collaboration in Higher Education
8 June – The Minister of Tertiary Education, Science, Research and Technology meets the High Commissioner of South Africa to discuss collaboration in the field of higher education, research and exchange between universities, and research institutions of the two countries.

 
One-Stop Shop
7 June – Launching of One-Stop Shop project on a pilot basis at the Abercrombie Women Centre. Services offered by NGOs (such as NaTRESA and PILS) and institutions (such as National Empowerment Foundation and Commission Nationale du Sport Féminin) are now accessible under one roof.

 
Meeting with European Union ambassadors
7 June – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade chairs, in Port Louis, a meeting with European Union ambassadors accredited to Mauritius. Discussions focus mainly on: the Government programme 2012-2015, the political situation in Mauritius, electoral reform, fight against piracy and promotion of maritime security, the extended continental shelf, EU-Mauritius development cooperation, and trade relations and the economic partnership agreement.

 
Ballast Water Management Project
7 June – Debriefing presentation by the Mauritius Oceanography Institute on activities carried out from 31 May to 6 June in the Port Louis waters in connection with the ballast water management project.

 
Training in Business Communication
6 June – Two-day training for 50 women entrepreneurs, at the National Women Development Centre, Phoenix, focuses on Business Communication. The training is a joint initiative of the National Women Entrepreneur Council and the BAI as per an agreement signed between the two parties.

 
World Environment Day 2012
5 June – A one-day workshop on Green Economy targeting economic operators is held at La Cannelle, Domaines Les Pailles. A series of activities also mark World Environment Day. The theme retained this year is Green Economy: Does it include you?

 
COMESA-EAC-SADC - 4th Meeting Tripartite Committee of Senior Officials
5 June – The 4th Meeting of the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Committee of Senior Officials is held at Grand Bay International Conference Centre.

 
6th International Congress for Blood Transfusion
4 June – Some 300 foreign delegates participate in the 6th International Congress for Blood Transfusion organised jointly by the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life and the African Society for Blood Transfusion at Le Meridien Hotel, Pointe aux Piments.

 
Towards the Implementation of Islamic Financial Board Standards
4 June – Opening of a three–day workshop on Facilitating the implementation of Islamic Financial Board standards at the Sofitel Imperial Resort & Spa, Flic-en-Flac. Regulatory and supervisory authorities and operators from Mauritius, Pakistan, Seychelles, Sudan and Uganda attend the workshop aimed at showcasing the existing opportunities of Islamic Capital Markets in Africa.

 
WHO Report on Dementia
4 June – The World Health Organisation (WHO) Report on Dementia: A Public Health Priority, jointly prepared by WHO and Alzheimer's Disease International, is launched at the Municipality of Port Louis. The report gives an overview of the global epidemiology and the impact of dementia, national-level approaches to the disease.

 
Human Rights Education Programme
2 June – A Human Rights Education Programme targeting 300 young persons through 10 Youth Centres is launched at the Pamplemousses Youth Centre.

 
COMESA-EAC-SADC - Tripartite Trade Negotiating Forum
1 June – The 3rd Meeting of the COMESA-EAC-SADC Tripartite Trade Negotiating Forum opens at Grand Bay International Conference Centre.

 
16 Days 16 Rights Campaign
1 June – The 16 Days 16 Rights Campaign kick-starts at Alliance Française, Bell Village. The objective is to create awareness at national level on the rights and the responsibilities of children. The Campaign is organised in the run up to mark the International Day of the African Child, celebrated each year on 16 June.
