• Vector-Borne Diseases – Press Conference
26 December - The Minister of Health and Quality of Life, during a press conference in Port Louis, speaks on vector borne diseases. The current situation and measures taken by the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life are discussed. The way forward is also stated.
• Closing of NICE Pilot Project
20 December - The Prime Minister officially closes the NICE Pilot Project at Pointe Jérôme Training Centre in Mahebourg.
• Mega Blood Donation
20 December – A Mega Blood Donation is organised at the esplanade of Emmanuel Anquetil Building where 1 825 pints of blood are collected.
• Annual Patients’ Day
19 December – Celebration of Annual Patients’ Day in each Regional Hospital from 19 to 22 December.
• Journée de la Jeunesse de la CJSOI
17 December – Activities in the context of the Journée de la Jeunesse de la CJSOI (Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien) are held at the Esplanade of the Emmanuel Anquetil Building in Port Louis. Around 70 young people demonstrate their talent in street art to mark the event which is observed on 8 December each year. The theme is Jeunesse et Créativité, Tradition et Modernité.
• Workshop focuses on Data Protection
17 December – A workshop on Data Loss Prevention Software, Cloud Computing, Social Networking and Forensic Investigation, opens at Le Maritim Hotel in Balaclava. It is organised by the Data Protection Office, Prime Minister’s Office to sensitise data controllers and processors on the need to safeguard privacy by understanding the impact of latest technologies on their personal data.
• Workshop to Disseminate Findings of Research Projects on Climate Change Adaptation
17 December – A two-day workshop to disseminate the findings of research projects relating to climate change adaptation is held at the Mauritius Research Council in Ebène. Some 11 research projects, funded under the Africa Adaptation Programme and focusing mainly on climate change adaptation issues and coal ash management, are presented.
• Launching of Special Commemorative Cover
17 December – A special commemorative cover on cooperatives is launched and a workshop on ‘Fairtrade’ is organised by the Ministry of Business, Enterprise and Cooperatives at Clos St Louis, Domaine Les Pailles.
• 2nd Edition of ICT Excellence Award
14 December – The second edition of the ICT Excellence Award, aiming to give due recognition to individuals, organisations from the public and private sectors, SMEs, BPO/Call centres, ITES companies who have contributed in the field of ICT, is held in Ebène.
• Seminar on Environment and Sustainable Development
13 December - A two-day parliamentary seminar, in Pointe aux Piments, focuses on environment and sustainable development. The objectives are to ensure the reinforcement of technical capabilities of parliamentarians whose roles are perceived as decisive in the formulation and in the evaluation process of setting up of development policies. Participants are from francophone states of the Indian Ocean region namely Comoros, Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion/France and Seychelles.
• National Economic and Social Council Holds Tenth Annual Summit
13 December – The National Economic and Social Council (NESC) holds its tenth annual summit at Le Sirius, Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel, in Port Louis. To mark its ten years of existence, the Council also launches a commemorative magazine illustrating its achievements since its setting up under the NESC Act 2001.
• Workshop on International Arbitration
13 December – A workshop on international arbitration, aiming to analyse the promotion of Mauritius as an Arbitration Centre for Africa, opens at the Financial Services Commission House in Ebène. Participants are experts on international arbitration as well as professionals in the global business and international financial services sector.
• Training Course of Research Methodology - Award Ceremony
13 December – An award ceremony, in Ebène, rewards 150 participants of a training course on Research Methodology. The three best presenters at a Post-Graduate Award Conference are also rewarded. The training course was organised, from 21 July to 27 October 2012, by the Mauritius Research Council. The Conference, held in October 2012, provided a platform for 28 registered researchers from the University of Mauritius and the University of Technology to present their respective progress in their research projects as well as to stand the test of conference scrutiny.
• Talk on Medical Malpractice
13 December – A talk, at the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre, Bell Village, focuses on ‘Legal Perspectives of Medical Malpractice’. The speaker is Mr Justice B.N Sri Krishna, Former Judge, Supreme Court, India.
• March for Blood
12 December – A “March for Blood” is held from Champs de Mars to the Municipality of Port-Louis. Around 200 persons including the Minister of Health and Quality of Life, members of the managing committee of the Blood Donors Association, representatives of blood donor organisations, volunteers and a number of non-governmental organisations, participate.
• Mauritius Prisons Service - Angel Tree 2012
12 December – The Mauritius Prisons Service organises its annual Angel Tree celebration at the Prison Training School in Beau Bassin.
• Launching of NICE Pilot Project
11 December – The President of the Republic, Mr Rajkeswur Purryag, launches the National Institute for Civic Education (NICE) pilot project at the Sir Abdool Raman Osman State College in Phoenix. The programme revolves around four themes: individual, community, society and country.
• PM opens Mauritius International Arbitration Conference 2012
10 December – Official opening of the Mauritius International Arbitration Conference 2012 by the Prime Minister at the Intercontinental Hotel, Balaclava. The event marks the successful continuation of the dynamic project launched in 2010 by the Government of Mauritius to create a new platform in the region for international commercial and investment arbitration.
• Second Graduation Ceremony at Fashion and Design Institute
07 December – Graduation Ceremony for 60 students of the Fashion and Design Institute at the Auditorium of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute. 39 students receive their Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art & Design, 21 receive a Higher National Diploma in Graphic Design & Multimedia and ten students are awarded a Higher National Diploma in Fashion and Textiles.
• Green IT Award Ceremony
06 December – Green IT Award Ceremony is held at La Cannelle, Domaine Les Pailles to reward best students, winners of a Green IT essay Competition and participants who successfully completed the Foundation Certificate in Green IT from BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT.
• NICE Pilot Project - Press conference
05 December – The Senior Chief Executive, Prime Minister’s Office, during a press conference in Port Louis, elaborates on the National Institute for Civic Education (NICE) Pilot Project. The project aims to establish a national initiative for the youth of Mauritius that would inculcate a sense of national belonging and rootedness.
• Three-day training course on Leadership
04 December – Three-day training course on leadership for some 100 officers at middle and top management levels as well as high officials from various technical cadres across the public sector, is held at La Plantation Hotel, Balaclava. The main objectives are to deepen participants’ understanding on the complexities of the public service and connect this learning to their respective service story through a broad multidisciplinary approach.
• Zero New HIV Infections Workshop - World Aids Day
01 December – A workshop on “Getting to Zero” - Zero New HIV Infections, Zero Discrimination, and Zero AIDS Related Deaths” is organised at Gold Crest Hotel, Quatre Bornes, in the context of World Aids Day.
• FSC Conducts Consumer Education Roadshow 2012 in Rodrigues
01 December - The Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Mauritius conducts a Consumer Education road-show in Rodrigues with a view to promote public understanding of the financial services system including the benefits and risks associated with different kinds of investment. The campaign forms part of a series of road-shows organised by the FSC in various regions across the island.
