• National Tripartite Seminar to Promote the Prevention of Work-related Diseases
30 April - Opening of a national tripartite seminar at the Gold Crest Hotel in Quatre Bornes, in the context of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work 2013. The aim is to sensitise workers on the promotion and the prevention of work-related diseases.
• Flood victims: 215 households benefit from Government support
30 April - Purchase vouchers are presented by the Prime Minister, in Port Louis, to 215 households who were victims of floods of February 13 and March 30.
• International Labour Day 2013 - Half-day Symposium for Workers
29 April - A half-day Symposium for Workers opens at the Octave Wiéhe Auditorium in Réduit to highlight the importance and the significance of Labour Day and the 75th anniversary of the labour administration in Mauritius.
• Flash Flood Victims - Unveiling of Memorial
29 April – A memorial in remembrance of the victims of the flash flood of March 30 is unveiled by the Prime Minister at Rogers Square in Port Louis.
• Economy - Press Conference
27 April - The Vice-Prime Minister and Minister of Finance and Economic Development, during a press conference, elaborates on the economic situation prevailing in Mauritius.
• Flash Flood Victims – Cheques Presented as Gesture of Solidarity
26 April - A cheque to the tune of Rs 633 000 approximately is presented by the Chief Commissioner of Rodrigues to the Prime Minister. This gesture demonstrates the spirit of solidarity of the Rodriguans towards the victims of the flash floods of March 30.
• Cheques are Presented to Relatives of Flood Victims by PM
26 April - A solemn ceremony is held at the Treasury Building, in Port Louis, during which the Prime Minister hands over cheques, as a sign of humanitarian support to the relatives who have tragically lost their close ones during the flash flood of March 30.
• SME Regional Fair at Rivière du Rempart
26 April - A three-day Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Regional Fair is organised at Rivière du Rempart. Its objective is to increase visibility of SME products and local production.
• Night Sky Observation Programme in Chamouny
26 April - A night sky observation programme, jointly organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre (RGSC) and the Sugar Industry Labour Welfare Fund, is held at Chamouny Community Centre. It aims at initiating inhabitants to astronomy through presentations on the universe and observation of sky objects such as the moon, common stars and planet Jupiter through the RGSC’s telescopes.
• Science Week at Rivière du Rempart
25 April – The second edition of Science Week is organised at the Rivière du Rempart Youth Centre by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre. The objective is to promote Science among the population and to raise awareness on the practical importance of Science and Technology in various sectors of the Mauritian economy.
• Special Collaborative Programme for Women and Children in Distress
25 April –Cheques totaling some Rs 1.6 million are presented, in Port Louis, to two Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) assisting disabled children under the Special Collaborative Programme for Women and Children in Distress. This Programme provides financial support to NGOs, Community Based Organisations and Non-State Actors to implement projects focused on enhancing the livelihoods of women and children in distress and creating opportunities for their integration in the mainstream of development.
• 11th edition of Book Festival
25 April - The 11th edition of the Book Festival, organised by the Ministry of Arts and Culture and the National Library, opens in Bagatelle Mall. The four-day event is organised annually to celebrate World Book and Copyright Day, commemorated on 23 April as proclaimed by UNESCO in 1995.
• World Intellectual Property Day - Workshop on Intellectual Property and Software
25 April - A workshop on Intellectual Property and Software, in the context of World Intellectual Property Day, opens in Pailles. It aims at familiarising IT professionals and software developers with major forms of Intellectual Property Rights and Intellectual Property issues associated with software and computer programmes, trends and prospects.
• Reception in Honour of 2012 Laureates
25 April – A reception in honour of the laureates of the HSC 2012 examinations is held at the State House, Réduit, in the presence of the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.
• Award of Certificates to Receptionists/Telephone Operators
25 April – Certificates are awarded to some 75 Receptionists/Telephone Operators, in Port Louis, by the Minister of Civil Service and Administrative Reforms. The aim is to ensure that the officers work towards the same mission and vision of the Government.
• Inception Workshop on Chemical Management
24 April - An Inception Workshop on the Mauritius /UNDP /UNEP Partnership Initiative for the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM) is held in Pailles. It provides a platform to stakeholders to review project deliverables and propose a path forward to mainstream the highest priority issues in the national development plans.

22 April – Launching of a Training course in Agro Processing and Dehydration of Agro Products at the Production cum Sales Centre of Plaine des Papayes.
• Inauguration of Open University of Mauritius
22 April – Official inauguration of the Open University of Mauritius at its new study centre in Forest Side. The new University is in line with Government’s mission to transform Mauritius into a knowledge hub and its objective to provide the opportunity to every citizen to access higher education with flexible study options and at affordable prices.
• World Earth Day 2013
22 April – Activities, marking World Earth Day 2013, are launched by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development at G.M.D. Atchia State Secondary School, Port Louis.
• Zero Tolerance Club in Vacoas
20 April – Launching of Zero Tolerance Club (ZTC) for the region of Hollyrood, Vacoas. The ZTC aims at involving the community to combat domestic violence and creating more awareness among the public on issues pertaining to Gender-Based Violence. It has as members representatives of various Community-Based Organisations.
• Protection of Children: Signature of MoU for effective collaboration
19 April – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for effective and coordinated collaboration as regards the welfare and protection of children is signed, in Port Louis, by the Ministry of Local Government and Outer Islands and the Ministry of Social Integration and Economic Empowerment with the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare. The MoU sets in place effective working-together mechanisms to ensure that signatories commit their institutions to clear-cut and coordinated action relating to child protection and development as well as take full responsibility and ownership for services falling under their scope of action.
• Science Fun Day in Providence
18 April –Science Fun Day, a science-based programme, is organised by the Rajiv Gandhi Science Centre at the Providence Community Centre. It aims at engaging the public and children in simple fun activities related to science.
• Capacity Building Programme on effective use of DVD materials in awareness sessions
15 April – A half-day capacity building programme for some 100 officers from the Ministry of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare is held at the Gold Crest Hotel in Quatre Bornes. The objective is to enable participants understand and disseminate properly and effectively the issue of gender concept compiled in the DVD entitled ‘Egalité ant zom ek fam’.
• Launching of Guidelines for Employers
15 April - Launching of Guidelines for Employers by the Equal Opportunities Commission at its headquarters in Port Louis. These Guidelines have been prepared with a view to assist employers from both the public and private sectors with regard to the implementation of the Equal Opportunities Policy which should be ready by 31 July 2013.
• Conference of African Ministers in charge of Integration – Ministerial Meeting
18 April – The 6th Session of the Conference of African Ministers in charge of Integration (COMAI VI), under the theme Governance of Integration, opens at Intercontinental Hotel, Balaclava. The Ministerial Meeting comprises panel discussions on themes such as the rise of Africa, the role of African leaders in the integration process and the impact of globalisation on the governance of integration.
• International Day for Monuments and Sites 2013
18 April - Various activities are organised to mark International Day for Monuments and Sites 2013 on the theme: Heritage of education (schools, universities, libraries, academics etc) in its expressions in different geo-cultural contexts.
• Jeux de L’Espoir
17 April – Opening of the ‘Jeux de L’Espoir’ organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with sports federations at the Stade Sir Gaëtan Duval, in Rose-Hill.
• International workshop on ‘Formation des Jeunes Animateurs Polyvalents’
15 April – Five-day international workshop on ‘Formation des Jeunes Animateurs Polyvalents’ opens at Pointe Jérôme Training Centre, Mahebourg. It is organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports in collaboration with the Commission de la Jeunesse et des Sports de l’Océan Indien. Participants are from Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion Island, Rodrigues and Seychelles.
• Conference of African Ministers in charge of Integration - Experts Meeting
15 April – Two-day experts meeting open at Intercontinental Hotel, Balacalava. It precedes the Ministerial Meeting of the 6th Session of the Conference of African Ministers in charge of Integration (COMAI VI) which is hosted by Mauritius. Presentations during the experts meeting focus on the theme of the Conference as well as reports on the Status of Integration in Africa and on the Implementation of Recommendations from the COMAI V.
• Fonds d’Insertion pour les Jeunes – Award of Cash Prizes
13 April – Cash prizes are awarded in Ebène, by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, to young people in the context of the Fonds d’Insertion pour les Jeunes Programme. Young entrepreneurs whose projects have been selected by the CONFEJES receive funds to start up their respective business enterprise.
• NCB - ICT Expo 2013
13 April – The National Computer Board (NCB) organises ICT Expo 2013, a regional event, at Vieux Moulin Commercial Centre, Rose Belle. The aim is to create more awareness on emerging technologies and bring Information and Communication Technology closer to the citizens. The Mauritius Post Ltd, Mauritius Broadcasting Corporation and HM Rawat are amongst the ten exhibitors to showcase their ICT products and services.
• Media Law and Ethics: Presentation of Preliminary Report
13 April – The Preliminary Report on Media Law and Ethics is presented to the media by Mr Geoffrey Robertson, at Treasury Building in Port Louis. The latter’s services had been enlisted by the Prime Minister to review Mauritius’ media law. The report recommends changes to law and practice and proposes the setting up of a Media Commission as well as the adoption of a law to protect journalists’ sources of information.
• Conference of African Ministers in charge of Integration – Press Conference
12 April – The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, elaborates during a press conference in Port Louis, on the 6th Session of the Conference of African Ministers in charge of Integration (COMAI VI) scheduled from 15 to 19 April 2013 in Mauritius. The objective of COMAI VI is to review progress achieved in the implementation of the recommendations of COMAI V which was held in Nairobi in September 2011. It will also promote Mauritius’ interest and further reinforce the country’s cooperation with regional organisations in Africa and reaffirm our Pan-Africanism.
• Spécial Vacances April 2013 Launched
10 April - Launching of Spécial Vacances avril 2013 under the theme Hiking Fortnight for the students’ community. It is followed by a Chasse aux Trésors for young people aged 14-20 years at Poudre d’Or village with the aim to enable participants discover and learn more about the history of the village.
• Model African Union Conference
10 April - The first Model African Union Conference, enlisting the participation of both state and private secondary schools students, is held at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute Auditorium, Moka. The Conference is organised in the context of the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of African Union which is now known as the African Union.
• National Consultative Workshop on SADC Trade in Services
8 April – Opening of a National Consultative Workshop on SADC Trade in Services negotiations. The objective is to brainstorm and come up with a Schedule of Services Offer to be made to SADC Member States in the context of the SADC Trade in Services negotiations.
• Presentation of Shared Faith Belief Programme
8 April – The Shared Faith Belief Programme, which aims at fully engaging the various religious bodies of Mauritius and members of the Council of Religions in the fight against gender-based violence, is officially presented by the Minister of Gender Equality, Child Development and Family Welfare at a press conference in Domaine les Pailles.
• Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management
8 April - The Post Graduate Diploma in Educational Management is launched by the Mauritius of Institute of Education. The Post Graduate Diploma is a two-year part-time programme meant for practising Heads of Secondary Schools and all people (Deputy Rectors, Principals) presently assuming leadership and managerial responsibilities at school level.
• Work Placement Programme for Lower VI Students
8 April - The Human Resource Development Council organises an initiation workshop to launch its work placement programme for some 130 Lower VI students from 36 secondary schools during the April 2013 school holidays.
• Regional Meeting on HIV Care in Prisons
8 April - A regional meeting on HIV care in prisons, organised under the aegis of the UNODC, National Aids Secretariat (NAS) and the Prisons Department, is held at La Pirogue Hotel, Flic-en-Flac. Thirty-two representatives from Sub Saharan regions of Africa and 15 local participants from the Ministry of Health and Quality of Life, the NAS and the Prisons Department participate.
• Training Programme for Tax and Customs Officials from Comoros Islands
8 April - Opening of a one-month training programme for two tax and customs officials from Comoros Islands. Organised by the Mauritius Revenue Authority, the programme is meant to enhance capacity building, networking, knowledge-sharing as well as promote multilateral cooperation between the countries in the region.
• World Health Day
7 April - Launching of a sensitisation campaign against water-borne and vector-borne diseases in the context of the World Health Day 2013 at Canal Dayot, Port Louis.
• Signature of MoU for the Teaching of Hindi
4 April – A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the Teaching of Hindi is signed by the Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI) and the Town of St Denis, Reunion Island. Under the MoU, the MGI will initiate a five-week basic Hindi course at St Denis as from August 2013. The MoU also provides for professional growth opportunities to the few Hindi teachers who work in St Denis as well as Hindi language and cultural education to students so as to help them appreciate Hindi and the Indian culture.
• First Annual Leadership Series Forum Launched by PM
4 April - The first annual Leadership Series Forum entitled, Road map to the Future: Building Mauritius as a Regional Financial and Business Centre, is launched by the Prime Minister at the Labourdonnais Waterfront Hotel in Port Louis. Organised by the Business Outlook, TIME Magazine in collaboration with the Board of Investment, the event serves as platform to exchange views on the global strategy in building Mauritius as a Regional Financial and Business Centre.
• Chief Justice launches the e-judiciary system
4 April - The e-judiciary system is launched at the Commercial Division of the Supreme Court, in Port Louis, by the Chief Justice. The system, which provides for an electronic platform for the lodging of cases and case management, will thereafter be extended to the Civil Division and appellate jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and finally to all subordinate courts.
• Entrepreneurship Training workshop
3 April - The Entrepreneurship Training workshop, an internationally acclaimed workshop, jointly developed by the Harvard University and the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development through intensive research, opens at Clos St Louis, Domaine Les Pailles. About 40 existing and potential entrepreneurs participate in this six-day training organised by the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority and Empretec Mauritius.
